Which other medications might interact negatively with Fildena?
Fildena is a brand name for a medication containing the active ingredient sildenafil, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Fildena belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. When considering potential interactions with other medications, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional, as they can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current medications. Nitrates: Medications used to treat angina (chest pain) or certain heart conditions, such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Combining nitrates with sildenafil can lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Alpha-blockers: These medications, often used to treat high blood pressure or prostate enlargement, can also cause a drop in blood pressure when taken with sildenafil. Antihypertensive Medications: Other blood pressure-lowering medications may have an additive effect with sildenafil, leading to a potentially unsafe drop in blood pressure. Certain Antifungal Medications: Azole antifungal medications (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole) can affect the way sildenafil is metabolized, potentially leading to increased levels of sildenafil in the body. Certain Antibiotics: Macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin, clarithromycin) can also affect the metabolism of sildenafil, potentially increasing its levels in the body. HIV Protease Inhibitors: Some medications used to treat HIV, such as ritonavir, may increase the levels of sildenafil in the body. Other Erectile Dysfunction Medications: Combining sildenafil with other PDE5 inhibitors, such as tadalafil (Cialis) or vardenafil (Levitra), is generally not recommended due to the potential for additive effects.
